I Can Read Without You (ICRWY) Project

Phonetic transcription (also known as phonetic script or phonetic notation) is the visual representation of speech sounds (or phones) by means of symbols. The most common type of phonetic transcription uses a phonetic alphabet, such as the International Phonetic Alphabet.

(The IPA)

Miss Emma's Speech Sound Monsters are an alternative to the phonetic symbols used within the IPA. So for every phonetic symbol there is a Speech Sound Monster. These Speech Sound Pictographs offer a direct link to the sounds, so less cognitive load.
Young children can work out any words when they are Monster Mapped!
